Browns, blacks, and whites accented by pinks and reds laughed at him from inside their display case, which was decorated with cutouts of hearts and cupids. His stomach made a sound like an angry Ken, and he was sure the cakes were enjoying themselves. "May I help you, ma'am?" the lady behind the counter asked.

"No," he answered gruffly before turning and leaving the shop. He hadn't needed to look at the woman's face to know that her mistake had caused her to be embarassed. Many people mistook him for a girl, and that had earned him the undesireable nickname "chica."

He almost regretted walking out of the cake shop, but he knew he would never be able to afford anything in there, anyway. The streets weren't much better than the inside of the cake shop had been. Everywhere he looked, he could see Valentine's decorations and couples holding hands and doing other couple-like things. "Stupid holiday," he muttered, kicking a small pebble so that it skipped a few feet ahead of him. He wasn't even sure if Valentine's Day was a holiday. It seemed more like a ploy to get people to buy greeting cards and flowers and chocolates from local businesses.

He walked by a guy who was giving his girlfriend a pretty necklace. The way the aqua jewels sparkled on the silver chain almost made Hikaru want one too. But he shook his head to get the idea out of it. Besides, necklaces wouldn't look good on him.

Another couple was kissing by a fountain, and when he turned away from them, he saw two more people feeding some pidgeons together. He had picked the wrong day to come into town. It was probably best to head back to Kokuyo Land, so he did. And as he did, he kept his eyes downcast so he wouldn't have to look at anymore happy people, but he could still see pairs of feet as they passed by him.

When he arrived at the place that he called his "home," he began climbing the hills, which were slick and muddy from the rain that had poured down the night before, with great difficulty. He had to get to the other side of Kokuyo Land. That was his favorite place to be. No one bothered him all the way on the far end. It was nice and quiet, and he could either lose himself in thought or take a nap every once in a while. He was almost there when his foot got caught on an overgrown patch of grass, and he fell flat on his face in the mud. The brown, sticky substance clung to his hair and seeped into his clothes. He was absolutely disgusted by the feeling. This holiday hates me...

"You should take a shower," a familiar voice suggested. The filthy boy wiped some of the mud from his face and looked up at Chikusa. He was holding a bouquet of carnations of all different colors. The way his dark blue eyes bored into Hikaru through his glasses was almost like a scolding.

"I will... later." Hikaru stood up and attempted to wipe some of the ooze from his clothes to no avail. "Who are the flowers for?" He assumed they were for Chrome, a nice little present for her to make her feel slightly special on this awful "holiday."

"Um... They're for you." Chikusa held the flowers out to Hikaru, and the feminine-looking boy's pink eyes widened a little.

"Wh-where'd you...?" He curled his fingers around the bouquet, taking it from Chikusa.

"The flower shop." Obviously. "You like bright colors, right?"

"Yeah..." Hikaru's cheeks flushed a color similar to that of his eyes. "Thanks." He placed a light peck on Chikusa's bar-coded cheek and then looked at his feet as if he was ashamed of what he had just done. "That's... all I could afford." Not desiring to stay in the kind boy's presence, he dashed off quickly. He didn't even bother to stay to see the guy's reaction.

As he watched Hikaru running off with the bouquet in hand, Chikusa's lips curled upward in the smallest smile for the smallest second. That one's an interesting kid. He gently touched his cheek and discovered that the light brush he had received from Hikaru's hair when the boy had kissed him had deposited some mud there. "Hm... I could use a shower." But he decided he'd go without one for a little bit. Nothing like a little Valentine's Day filth to really make a guy complete, you know?
Ugh, I finally finished this thing. ;A; The only thing that kept me from scrapping it was ~Breann21530's intense excitement about reading it. So... finally, I managed to pull a little something out of my rear. It's completely random. Just a little thing for Valentine's Day. I'm uploading it today so that it doesn't get lost in the rest of your Valentine's Day messages.

I was originally gonna call this "All I Could Afford" because of what Hikaru says, but I changed the title to "Filth" at the last minute. Great name for a Valentine's Day story, right? :'D

Anyway... yeah... Have some ChikuHika everybody~ And happy holidays! ... I guess. Love is overrated, don'tcha think~?
